In certain regions of South Africa, when someone does something wrong, he is taken to the center of the village and is surrounded by his tribe for two days while they speak of all the good he has done.
They believe each person is good, yet sometimes we make mistakes, which is really a cry for help. They unite in this ritual to encourage the person to reconnect with his true nature. The belief is that unity and affirmation have more power to change behavior than shame and punishment.
This is know as Ubuntu – humanity towards others.
“…the profound sense that we are human only through the humanity of others; that if we are to accomplish anything in this world it will in equal measure be due to the work and achievement of others”
How we do it
The Ubuntu approach
This service is different to any of our service offerings by any of our suppliers. Yet it is funded 100% by each one of them, giving out of their personal self. It is an expression of our heart, a yearning to help those that need a little bit more. We have come together where we saw a need and want to help. This is not about providing professional immigration advice or writing your resume. It’s about being human, about making a difference and helping you find your feet in your new land. It’s about giving and not expecting, loving and not needing. Why? Because we know standing together makes a bigger difference.
This is Ubuntu – humanity towards others.
Not sure where to start on this journey? You might have just landed here and have no idea how to apply for your medical insurance, you could find it difficult to connect and make friends. Whatever your challenge, we would love to reach out and help. It’s not about selling a service, it’s about touching a heart, finding a human connection. We won’t ask you to buy anything or do anything you are not comfortable with. We want to support you in whichever way you have a need. We have access to professional psychologist if you are in need of reaching out and getting help. We’ve been there and know how tough this journey can be if you do it all alone.
Please tell us how we can help you.
Howzit is not a big organization with massive teams and endless funding. We are a group of ex Saffas and passionate Canadians that have built a community around trust, love and generosity. We have seen what an enormous difference it makes to be connected and build your network as. you restart your life in Canada.
We would love to partner with you to connect others. Whether you can give 20 minutes of your time to give someone a call once a week to check in how they are doing, maybe dropping off a coffee or if you are part of a larger organization, to help us with funding to help others. 100% of the funds raised for Ubuntu goes directly into supporting and giving back to the community.
Know of someone that can benefit of Ubuntu?
When we get involved in our community and hear about someone in need, we can make a difference. No matter how small. It could be as simple as knowing of a new family that just landed and could do with a box of Timbits to welcome them to Canada. Perhaps it is someone that have been here a while and need something more. Sometimes it’s tough for someone to reach out and ask for help. Be that voice for the person that doesn’t know how to do it. We will respect your and their privacy and reach out with care and love. Let us know how we can help.
